"Party in the U.S.A.", the lead single from The Time of Our Lives, went for adds for mainstream radio on August 4, 2009.However, due to an illegal leak of a demo version, it was released early on July 29 for airplay. Cyrus was irritated by the leak and tweeted, "How did my friggen [sic]song get leaked???" After its official release, fifty stations on mainstream radio added the single, making it the most added single to mainstream radio for the week. According to The New York Post, "Party in the U.S.A." is an up-tempo track with "semi-autobiographical" lyrics that center around Cyrus's move from Nashville, Tennessee to Los Angeles, California. The song also references Jay-Z and Britney Spears as artists who the song's protagonist is listening to.
